Mifuatano: Supplemental Curriculum (3-5 Year Old)

Supplemental Curriculum (3-5 Year Old) is a set of resources designed to accompany Compassion International’s Global Resource Curricula (GRC) to provide a rich, interactive learning experience for caregivers and children ages 3-5, with age appropriate and developmentally integrated curriculum. This curriculum consists of a short film, an online learning course, a user guide and twelve units of lessons. It is designed to enrich the GRC curriculum, providing an extension of the learning experiences and including the important element of the caregiver’s participation in their child’s learning experiences. Supplemental Curriculum (3-5 Year Old) is based upon a learning center methodology, which provides age appropriate Holistic Child Development opportunities for caregivers and children to be actively involved in learning together. In this learning center environment, both the caregiver and child are learning, making choices and building relationship. The caregiver is empowered to be the main teacher of the child, which has positive impact on their relationship and the child’s ability to reach their full potential because learning is extended into the home. The learning centers may be adapted for use as a home visit lesson or set up at the center and used as a group learning experience. Compassion International, a non-profit organization dedicated to releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name, has been championing Holistic Child Development for over sixty years. Holistic Child Development (HCD) is a method of teaching and shaping children with respect to all aspects of the person – their body, their mind, their heart and their soul. What we learn as children shapes who we become as adults; this is why Holistic Child Development sets children up to be well-balanced, mature adults, not lacking in anything (James 1:4).
