The lesson “Introduction to Breastfeeding” helps the mother understand why breastfeeding is the healthiest option for a baby. She will learn the process of breastfeeding and be able to define colostrum and its importance for a newborn. The lesson also describes the importance of proper nutrition and hydration while breastfeeding, as well as cultural misinformation related to breastfeeding.
Note: This lesson encourages HIV+ mothers to seek the advice of a medical professional regarding breastfeeding. Current practice advises mothers who are HIV+ not to breastfeed to avoid mother-to-child transmission.
